Yes, you read that right. There’s a restaurant serving blue ramen noodles in Tokyo and it’s called Kipposhi. While blue is not a color that someone would associate with appealing food, Kipposhi’s chicken clear blue is a feast for both the eyes and the tummy.

Blue Ramen: A Recipe for Comfort

The official name of Kipposhi’s blue ramen is “Chicken Clear Soup Blue,” and it’s just one of the many variations of the restaurant’s torichintan dish, although without a doubt the most popular. The broth has a gentle but a flavorful taste and the noodles are chewy.

When I eat ramen, I usually go for tonkotsu or miso—deep flavors that are heavy on the tummy. Chicken Clear Soup Blue is just as filling, but it doesn’t leave you bloated. In fact, the soup tastes like the kind you’d want to eat when you’re feeling under the weather. It comforts you and at the same time charges you up.

Ordering System

Like many ramen shops in Japan, Kipposhi employs a pay first system. Once you get in, purchase food tickets from the vending machine then hand the stubs to the staff. Water is also self-service.

The map can get a little confusing as the point will lead you to Seven Eleven and there are no signs pointing to Kipposhi from the outside. Kipposhi is on the same building as Seven Eleven, just climb the stairs up and you will see the restaurant right away.
