Itsukushima Shrine
Head to the iconic Itsukushima Shrine. At low tide, you can walk right up to the massive torii gate; during high tide, it appears to float on the water—either way, it’s an unforgettable sight. Spend around 45 minutes to an hour exploring the shrine’s stunning architecture and learning about its rich history.

Senjokaku
A short walk from Itsukushima Shrine is Senjokaku (Toyokuni Shrine), known for its spacious hall and nearby five-storied pagoda. Take around 30 minutes to explore the hall’s simple but grand architecture, and enjoy the views of the pagoda, which adds a splash of color to the landscape.
4-minute walk

Omotesando Shopping Street
Omotesando Shopping Street, which is packed with shops selling souvenirs and local snacks. Grab some grilled oysters or momiji manju as a treat while you explore. You can also grab a quick lunch from one of the many restaurants along the shopping street or near the shrine. If you’re up for it, try some of Miyajima’s famous anago (conger eel).

Mt. Misen
If you’re feeling energetic, hike up Mt. Misen for some of the best views of the island and Seto Inland Sea. The hike takes about 1.5 to 2 hours one way, depending on your pace. If you’re short on time or want to save energy, you can take the Miyajima Ropeway halfway up and hike the rest of the way to the summit. Plan for about 3 hours to complete this part of the adventure (including taking the ropeway back down).

04:00 PM
Daishoin
After descending from Mt. Misen, visit the serene Daishoin Temple, located at the base of the mountain. This lesser-known yet beautiful temple complex is filled with Buddhist statues, lanterns, and a prayer wheel corridor. It’s a great spot to unwind after your hike, and you’ll likely have it to yourself for peaceful reflection.

Ferry Back to Hiroshima Main Island
Catch the ferry back to Hiroshima as the sun sets. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a stunning view of the torii gate glowing in the evening light, a perfect way to close out your day on Miyajima.
