Installed near the entrance to Ueno Zoo, the Panda Post Box is one of Japan’s most unique mailboxes. It’s designed with the beaming face of a panda, complete with a tail and panda ears that stick out. It was unveiled in August 2011, along with the release of a special stamp that features Takamori Saigo and a panda on the side.
Japan has a way of highlighting an area’s main attractions using mundane objects like post boxes, floor tiles, and even drain covers. Always keep an eye out as you travel around; it’s always a pleasant surprise to find unusual designs in unexpected places.
