If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to get sucked in a picture book, the experience in Nukumori no Mori comes close. Located in Japan’s city of musical instruments, Nukumori no Mori, with its whimsical buildings and idyllic atmosphere, feels like a world away.

What is Nukumori no Mori?
Nukumori no Mori is a cluster of shops and ateliers selling handicrafts, accessories and novelty items. The whole area was fashioned after a European fairy tale, as designed by Sasaki Shigeyoshi. Many have compared it to a Ghibli movie, and the atmosphere does make you feel like a heroine (or hero) in a coming-of-age adventure.
Aside from the shops, Nukumori no Mori also has a small French restaurant, a gelato store, an owl cafe, and a gallery. There are at least two locations where a phone dock is available, perfect for taking photos for the ‘gram.

Other Things to Do in Hamamatsu
Nukumori no Mori takes would take only an hour or two to explore. If you want to add another place to visit in Hamamatsu, nearby locations include Hamamatsu Flower Park. You can also take a sightseeing cruise on Lake Hamana or enjoy rides at Hamanako Pal Pal (amusement park). Personally, I rode the Kanzanji Ropeway and visited the Hamanako Orgel Museum.
