Hatonosu Valley: Okutama Nature Spot

0

A beautiful ravine with emerald green waters, Hatonosu Valley is one of Okutama’s most beloved nature spots. A suspension bridge (Hatonosuko Bridge) connects both sides; below it, the Tama River rushes through craggy rocks, the sound of which lulls one into a daydream.

On one side, you will see Gallery Poppo, a cozy cafe that serves organic dishes and homemade sweets. The other end of the bridge leads to a hiking trail that goes to Shiromaru Dam and ends at Okutama Station.

Summer and autumn are the best seasons to visit Hatonosu Valley. In summer (July to August), you will verdant green foliage, while fall invites you to see striking warm colors. Autumn hues typically peak in November.

The name Hatonosu means “pigeon’s nest” and is believed to derive from a pair of pigeons that nested near Tamagawasui Shrine.
