When it comes to food delivery, Japan has a wealth of choices. Now more than ever, people can have their favorite dishes delivered with a few finger taps, thanks to services like Uber Eats and Demaekan. When it comes to bread, however, options are limited. A few supermarkets and sandwich shops may be listed in food delivery apps, but good, delicious bread, is hard to come by.

That is, until Angelo’s. Angelo’s online bakery offers handmade baked goods you can get delivered to your doorstep. Run by an English self-taught baker who draws inspiration from his European heritage, Angelo’s uses wholesome, mostly local ingredients to create delectable pastries.

In a previous post, I’ve talked about Angelo’s gourmet biscuits. Today I want to introduce two of their latest creations: Yorkshire fruit cakes and Provencal bread or fougasse.

Yorkshire Cakes

Angelo's Yorkshire Cakes

Love scones? Yorkshire cakes take them to the next level. Lightly spiced and packed with dried fruit, Angelo’s classic Yorkshire cake has an iced exterior topped with chopped pistachios. They also have a chocolate variety made with 70% cocoa and chopped hazelnuts. The gooey chocolate center is heavenly!

For me, the classic Yorkshire cake was love at first bite, and while it took longer for me to fully appreciate the chocolate flavor, I find myself craving it more. If you’re unsure which one to try, I recommend getting both. I enjoyed eating them alternately for breakfast.

Provencal Flat Bread (Fougasse)

Also known as fougasse, Provencal bread is Southern France’s answer to Italy’s focaccia. The classic Provencal bread was traditionally made with dried fruits—a specialty of Southern France—and served during festive occasions.

Angelo’s offers fougasse in three varieties—with dried tomatoes, dried fruit, and dried olives. You can eat them as they are or pair them with your favorite cheese or cured meat. I personally like eating mine with a hefty serving of salad.

Vegan Scones

Plant-based bread lovers would be pleased to know that Angelo’s now includes vegan scones on their menu, in plain and raisin varieties. Angelo’s supports the plant-based movement and is looking to expand its vegan-friendly and organic vegan options. For more updates on their latest offers, kindly visit their official website.
